STARBASE NEBRASKA STAFF

Director: Sherry “Boomer” Pawelko. Sherry has a B.S. and M.A. in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has over 15 years experience in directing Community and Youth Development programs. Prior to coming to STARBASE Nebraska, Sherry was Director of Lincoln Community Learning Centers at Huntington and Riley Elementary Schools. Both CLCs focused on science, math, and technology learning opportunities for students.
Since becoming Director of STARBASE in May 2007, Sherry presented information about DoD STARBASE academies at a conference at USSTRATCOM, and the Aerospace Industry Association/National Defense Industry Association STEM Workforce Joint Committee.

Deputy Director: Justin “Sting” Ray. Justin earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from UNL. Prior to coming to STARBASE Nebraska Justin was a Science Teacher with Lincoln Public Schools. “Sting” has been a part of our staff since 2003, first as an instructor, and now as Deputy Director/Instructor.

Program Instructor: Stephanie "Seeker" Dicken. Stephanie has a B.A. in Sociology and M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to joining STARBASE Stephanie was a substitute teacher for Lincoln Public Schools. She also has worked in the medical field for 11 years.

Office Manager: Kevin “Chief” Gemmell. Kevin retired from the Nebraska Air National Guard in May 2008, having achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served 39 years in the Air Guard. Kevin provided support to our STARBASE academy since the inception of our program, in the area of finances. “Chief” is in his 4th year as our Office Manager.
